Headers in Word documents are used to add a title, date, or Page number to every page. They are a default feature in Word and come as a blank space between the page’s edge and the content’s first line.

Case-1: On a PC

Follow the below steps

  • Open a document in Word online by signing into your Microsoft account
  • if you have the content ready, open that document or choose a new blank document to begin with.

The header will show as a panel on the top, and the options will include options as explained below

  • Same across Entire Document: here, the same header is repeated across the entire document.
  • Different first page: The first page, like a cover page, has a different header than the rest of the document.
  • Different even& Odd pages: where you can have separate headers, one to be used on even pages while the other to be used on odd pages
  • Different first, even & odd pages: this is where you can have a header dedicated to the first page and then have separate headers for even and odd pages of the document.
  • Remove page numbers: this option removes the page numbers you have previously enabled
  • Remove header and footer: this option removes headers and footers entirely.

You can choose from the above and then edit the header accordingly. The changes you make will be visible when you click on the selected option.
